Braided from 100% genuine GFO® fiber, a graphite yarn in a PTFE matrix, Gore GFO Marine Shaft Packing offers many advantages over the more traditional flax packing.  The combination of Gore fibers, ptfe and graphite makes it very strong and durable.  Routine maintenance will be reduced and it will last for years.  It’s easy to install, and because it is four times more thermally conductive than regular flax, it requires practically no seawater for lubrication or cooling.  It allows for higher shaft speed without deterioration, and leakage is absolutely minimum because GFO Marine Shaft Packing never swells or shrinks. This is the packing used by the US Navy and Coast Guard and is approved by the American Bureau of Shipping.
